How MealPrep.nz Meals Are Made: From Kitchen to Freezer
When you order a meal, it's fair to wonder how it was actually made. Transparency matters — especially with food. So here's an honest look behind the scenes at how MealPrep.nz meals go from raw ingredients to the snap-frozen meals that arrive at your door.
Step 1: Quality Ingredients
It starts with sourcing. We use fresh, locally sourced ingredients and quality whole-food proteins — real chicken, beef and more. Good meals start with good ingredients, so this is where it begins.
Step 2: Recipe Development
Our meals aren't thrown together — they're developed to hit specific nutrition targets. Every recipe is built around protein density (30g+ per meal) and balanced macros, then refined so it actually tastes great. The goal is food that's genuinely healthy and genuinely enjoyable.
Step 3: Cooked Fresh in Our MPI-Registered Kitchen
Every meal is prepared by hand by our chef in our MPI-registered, Food Control Plan compliant kitchen in Papamoa. This isn't mass-production — it's proper cooking to commercial food-safety standards, in managed batches.
Step 4: Snap-Frozen at Peak Freshness
As soon as meals are cooked, they're snap-frozen — frozen rapidly to lock in nutrition, flavour and texture at their peak. This is the key step that lets our meals stay genuinely high-quality for up to 3 months, without preservatives.
Step 5: Labelled and Quality-Checked
Each meal is individually labelled with its contents, nutrition panel, heating instructions and best-before date — so you always know exactly what you're eating and how to prepare it.
Step 6: Packed and Delivered
Meals are packed into temperature-controlled packaging that keeps them safe for up to 48 hours in transit, then dispatched on our delivery runs nationwide. From our kitchen to your freezer, the cold chain stays intact.
Why This Process Matters
Every step is designed around two things: food safety and nutrition quality. The MPI registration, the fresh cooking, the snap-freezing, the cold-chain packaging — together they mean the meal you reheat is safe, nutritious and genuinely good.
